Taranto tourism and the Navy: “commitment, keeping San Vito a model neighborhood”

Below is the press release:

The Taranto Turismo Association has been at the forefront for years for the promotion of the Taranto area, with particular attention to the San Vito district, an important tourist and seaside hub. On the occasion of the recent swearing-in of the Navy Interforce, held on 17 April 2024, President Irene Lamanna spoke: “we cannot help but recognize the important springboard that these events represent for our territory. For years, these celebrations have not only honored the courage and service of our military, but also promoted our area as a hub of cultural and tourism activities.
However, beyond the ceremonies and celebrations, there remain some daily challenges that require attention and cooperation. Recently, some residents of the San Vito neighborhood have expressed concerns related to urban logistics, in particular regarding irregular parking by civilian and military personnel who frequent the Mariscuola Taranto Barracks. These inconveniences, although minor, can create significant inconvenience for the citizens of the neighborhood, negatively influencing the perception of order and compliance with local regulations”. The Taranto Tourism Association has always supported and will continue to support the Navy, recognizing the added value that the presence of this institution brings to the territory. “It is essential, however – continues Lamanna – that the collaboration between the Navy and the local community is mutual and constructive. Just as the Navy has expertly organized logistical solutions for its military personnel on assignment, it is essential to find solutions to mitigate impacts on local traffic and the use of public spaces.” From this reflection a request: “We therefore ask the Department of the Navy to extend its logistical effectiveness to these civil matters as well, ensuring that the streets of the San Vito neighborhood remain accessible and safe for all its inhabitants. The introduction of strengthened surveillance and more stringent disciplinary systems for serving soldiers could significantly improve the situation, preserving neighborhood harmony and maintaining public order.”
In conclusion, “as we celebrate the value and importance of our Navy, we encourage open and ongoing dialogue to resolve these logistical challenges. Only through mutual respect and cooperation will we be able to ensure that San Vito remains an example of civil coexistence and tourism development”.
