Two weights and two measures, the Sicily case and the Pandora operation

Certainly the regional government is not hostile to the national one, but why this disparity? In the meantime, let’s start by saying that the rules for dissolving municipalities infiltrated by mafia phenomena have been codified and used for some time, while for the Regions, second-level bodies, there are no specific and precedent rules on the matter. There was the case of Val d’Aosta, infiltrated by the Ndrangheta, but it didn’t get there either, despite the investigations having established that three regional presidents had been elected with the vote of the local ‘ndrina, upon dissolution by ministerial decree of the regional body.

But what emerges is more one media resignation, Sicily is no longer news, to put it on the front page would require something monstrous by now, and we don’t hope for it in the slightest. We are now considered, by the rest of the country, as one irredeemable community and therefore left at the mercy of ourselves, to our sensitivity. Which honestly is now rarefied, we have also lost the taste for indignation, disbelief and amazement.

It seems that we take for granted that politics is now the exclusive prerogative of unorthodox methods, and under the permanent broom of the investigating judiciary, which keeps us in a bain-marie for years, while entities are administered, votes collected, careers built, majorities changed. All intercepted, spied on, interdicted, sometimes arrested, suspended, in full respect and trust, clearly false, in the work of the judiciary. The most abused word is serenity, I am calm that my extraneousness will be recognized, every time it is used it increases the bank account of some criminal lawyer. And evidently the citizens are also serene, who go to vote less and less, and believe less and less that politics will change their hopes. But can politics change the lives of others when it doesn’t change one’s behavior?

There is not a moral question in Sicily, but an ontological one, a deontological one not even to speak of, and perhaps even an anthropological one. We are sick of Christianity, not that of catechesis, but that feeling that makes us agree with those who count, with those who have an intimidating or overwhelming power, the homo cristianus, understood as mafia. This can be seen from the dynamics of Paternò and Tremestieri, the adherence, the contiguity, the non-rejected approach. Except then perhaps vote unanimously for funds for anti-racket associations. A conscious hypocrisy. Hearing Claudio Fava, former president of the Anti-Mafia Commission, describe the current reality gives you a sense of infinite sadness.
