Rome: agreement to redevelop the railway hub. Now we wait for the Municipality
Descriptive text here

There’s a area in Rome of approximately 50 thousand m2 between via Appia, via Tuscolana and via Casilina which needs to be redeveloped. It’s a business card not exciting for those arriving by train in the city and the proposals to intervene are on file. Those who live in the area are waiting for the Municipality to take charge of reorganizing services, structures and areas of public interest. To do this it must approve an urban variation to the General Town Plan. These are operations that political forces discuss for a long time but Rome needs a relaunch. Since its inception the board of Roberto Gualtieri has accumulated delays which must be overcome with the rapid use of public resources and with collaborations with third-party bodies and companies. Forget the Raggi council, it has been said for three years now and we need to move from slogan to reality.

Public entities interested in the area railway junction there are many and we are starting to see something. A memorandum of understanding was signed between FS Urban Systems, lead company of the Urban Center of the FS Group, the Special Superintendency of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape of Rome, the Regional Secretariat of Lazio and the Ministry of Culture. Everyone pledged to comply guidelines for the work to be done.

The agreement establishes the relationship methods between the entities in order to have a single intervention direction. The point that seems auspicious for each area there will be specific processing methods “on the basis of which it will be possible to plan the planning of individual initiatives” says the agreement.

The variant to the PRG

Rome has protected sites and buildings everywhere, so even between the Appia and the Casilina it will be necessary to respect precise urban regeneration regulations. Under the aspect of sustainability he was born in architectural recovery of the assets, the Ministry of Culture in a note ensures the “verification of cultural interest, as required by the Legislative Decree. 42/2004, on properties and areas located in urban areas affected by urban transformations”.

The whole project is strategic. The approval of variant to the PRG it would be a reassuring signal for the Capital. There are investments planned in view of the Jubilee and other events. The current rules are from 2008 and “in the last 15 years they have never been modified despite there having been several attempts” recalled the Council.

Among the qualifying points of the variant resolution from a year ago is the “Quality Charter” with properties and urban areas subjected to a special protection regime identified by Roma Capitale, independent of other state constraints and defined by Superintendence of Rome Capital. With the signing of the protocol for the railway junction, the Gualtieri administration had an extraordinary assist. Make the most of it and on time
