Corriere dello Sport: “Palermo equal. But Pecchia sees the goal”

Today’s edition of “Il Corriere dello Sport” focuses on Palermo’s draw against Parma.

Reason of state prevailed, with Palermo having to secure the play-offs in at least 6th place and Parma approaching Serie A with one point. The pinks were satisfied with their first 0-0 home draw of the season, third draw in a row for Mignani who yesterday confirmed that he had an impact at least on the defensive phase, the Emilians of the third consecutive match without conceding a goal. Victory remains far away but Palermo has certainly acquired the balance that had been lost in Corini’s last days. Pigliacelli took risks only on rare occasions while his teammates kept the usual errors to a minimum.

The formation chosen by Mignani maintained a certain continuity, with two forwards and Di Francesco acting as an attacking midfielder, while Henderson started from the bench with Segre. The real news was the presence of Neldelcearu in the three-man defense in place of Ceccaroni, while Lucioni returned to the team. Palermo managed to keep up with Parma, maintaining good ball possession, one of the clear elements of the change brought about by the arrival of the new coach.

The team slowed down the pace and then tried to accelerate along the flanks, but suffered the loss of Di Mariano shortly after the half-hour mark, due to an injury that caused great concern. Buttaro’s substitution for him almost led to the goal late in the first half. During the break, Pecchia made a change to his team, bringing on Charpentier for Cyprien, thus redesigning the midfield. Palermo defended diligently and both teams’ goalkeepers received applause for some crucial saves, demonstrating their importance in keeping the scores even.
