The former Massimiliano Allegri certainly didn’t digest Juventus’ first half, dominated by Cagliari who went into the break ahead 2-0. But then the Juventus comeback, until Dossena’s very unfortunate own goal which earned the final 2-2. (THE MATCH REPORT HERE).
«When you find teams like Cagliari jumping on you you have to fight: we didn’t understand the game, we had to put the ball over and instead we took seven restarts”, the message from the visiting coach to his team. «We got everything wrong that needed to be done technically and we didn’t win half a tackle. Cagliari is a good team, if you don’t get into the match well you’ll come out with broken bones. We made a lot of mistakes, then we recovered and the boys were good but we can hardly win games like this.”
Mistakes. In the first half Juventus understood little, both due to their own errors and a great Cagliari. Allegri does not accept certain plays: «We conceded a goal from a lateral foul on the second penalty, we had already taken an easy restart before and continued. Understanding the matches then makes you grow: here in Cagliari it is always difficult to play well technically due to the pitch, but it is not the first year that this has happened. We didn’t understand that we had to fight, but also in other situations and in other matches: if you want to grow to raise the level they must be understood.”
Juventus’ match plan was different from the one that emerged at Domus: «We had to keep the result in the balance in order to then win the match in the second half, but that wasn’t the case. In the first half I had to change them all, maybe I had to change too. I saw some technical errors and I didn’t want to believe it, then fortunately I have a group of good guys who put it back on its feet. Unfortunately we haven’t won in six away matches, tonight we could have put a good piece of work towards qualifying for the Champions League but we have to get there slowly. The first half will serve as growth.”
