He resigned on March 26, overwhelmed by the searches that revealed accusations of corruption in his regards. Those same accusations for which he this morning Gianluca Festanow former mayor of Avellino, was arrested and placed under house arrest. Festa, former Democratic Party, was supported by some civic lists. Elected in 2019, he was already in election campaign for a second mandate – in June there will be a vote to renew the administration – before the investigation explodes.

The carabinieri of the provincial command of Avellino – according to what is reported on the de Daily fact – they also carried out a precautionary custody order under house arrest for Fabio Guerrieroowner of an architecture firm and brother of the city councilor Diego Warrior, and for the municipal manager Filomena Smiraglia. Searches were also carried out against the deputy mayor Laura Nargi.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office of the city of Campania, led by Domenico Airoma, disputes the crimes of criminal association aimed at committing crimes against the public administration, corruption, forgery, misdirection, revelation of secrets, embezzlement and undue inducement to give and promise benefits. According to the prosecution, the suspects set up a system aimed at carrying out various crimes relating to the assignments they public procurement of some events.

During the first searches, documents were also searched relating to the sponsorship of the DelFes, a Serie B basketball club, of which Festa, a former player, was a member until November. Then a second line of investigation was opened, relating to the accusation according to which, between April and May 2023, the mayor approved some immediately executive resolutions, but without making them public with inclusion in the municipal register.

Some of these resolutions concerned entrusting the promotion of an event, Eurochocolate, to a radio. On these omissions – as many as 170 resolutions were missing, according to a complaint from a city councilor – in February the M5s deputy Michele Gubitosa had submitted a question.
