Frost. The council of the Union of Municipalities essentially starts from scratch. The political body that should dictate the direction to be followed on the financing of the new 2021-2017 cycle, established last year, will resume next Monday where it started: the election of the president. Recently, the Forza Italia supporter Carlo Romano, who has already announced that he will not run in the local elections, presented his “irrevocable” resignation. “Personal” reasons convinced him to leave the presidency. Thus, Deputy Rosario Meli forwarded a communication to hold a session on Monday afternoon at Palazzo di Città. The Union’s council includes municipal councilors from Gela, Niscemi and Butera (three for each civic council). Last year, a sort of unwritten pact prevailed between center-right forces that led to the election of Romano. Since then, however, also due to considerable uncertainties in the Region, the pace for the new financing cycle has not been at all rapid. A summons from Palermo is awaited at the town hall for the program agreement to be signed. Gela is the leader of the Union, which draws inspiration from the experience of “Agenda Urbana”, which started with great enthusiasm but which in the end ran aground without reaching all the tenders for the works. The new financing cycle, through the functional urban area, can ensure significant resources for the three Municipalities. However, it will be necessary to materialize the projects and first of all put them in black and white. Coordinating on a technical and bureaucratic level is the manager Antonino Collura. Currently, however, the Union of Municipalities is a sort of empty box, without staff who can take care of it full time. For this reason, there was adherence to the national government’s notice to contract ten external professionals who can give almost exclusive priority to the entire preliminary phase and to relations with the bodies and with the Region.
