an open discussion in Udine – Nordest24

Udine, 19 April 2024 – The sustainability of the public healthcare system, a fundamental pillar of European and Italian welfare, will be at the center of the debate organized in Udine for next Monday 22 April. The meeting, entitled “Welfare, Healthcare, Sustainability”, will be held at 5.30 pm in the Sala Tomadini in via Tomadini 30.

Current context of the healthcare system

In an era marked by significant demographic changes, such as the aging of the population and a reduced birth rate, coupled with an increase in life expectancy, the question emerges: the public health model, conceived in the mid-twentieth century, is still adequate? Can this system guarantee the right to health of every individual resident in Italy and Europe under the shadow of growing socio-economic challenges?

The organizers and speakers of the event

The event is organized by the master’s degree course in Citizenship, Institutions and European Policies, which is part of a larger cycle of meetings focused on the future of Europe and in particular of Friuli Venezia Giulia, held in collaboration with the Friuli Foundation. At the center of the discussion will be the European Union’s welfare policies and their direct and indirect impact on the territory.

Introduction and participants

The opening of the event will see greetings from Claudio Cressati, deputy director of the Department of Legal Sciences, and Gabriele De Anna, coordinator of the master’s degree course. This will be followed by speeches from experts of the caliber of Silvio Brusaferro, former president of the Istituto Superiore di Sanità and full professor at the University of Udine; Sandra Gallina, Director General for Health and Food Safety at the European Commission; and Gianna Zamaro, central director of Health, social policies and disabilities of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region. Moderation will be entrusted to Valeria Filì, professor of Labor Law and Social Security.

Objectives of the meeting

The event aims to use the scientific and teaching skills of the master’s degree course to provide solutions to the inevitable and complex current phenomena, with the aim of ensuring a sustainable future for the healthcare system. The participation of key figures in the landscape of public health and political management offers a rich and diverse perspective to address these pressing issues.
