San Nicandro Garganico, the provincial swimming pool will soon reopen

After four years of closure, the provincial swimming pool of San Nicandro Garganico will reopen its doors with important structural innovations – such as the sliding roof – which will make it one of the very few in Italy.

This morning, the mayor Matteo Vocale and the president of the Provincial Authority, Giuseppe Nobiletti, took stock of the situation on the progress of the works, who visited the ‘Zaccagnino’ student village, in the Portone Perrone area, where problems related to the incursions were found “of the usual vandals”.

Present at the meeting were the provincial councilor Antonio Berardi, the former provincial councilor and current municipal councilor Antonio Zuccaro and the director of the Province’s Heritage Area, the architect Denice Decembrino. “We first stopped at the provincial swimming pool, which will very soon be handed over to the managing body and will finally be able to reopen its doors”explains Vocale.

“So, together with the head teacher Francesco Donataccio, we went to the school buildings to find out about the critical issues, some of which emerged following the repeated burglaries by the usual vandals. The visit was also an opportunity to develop the solution that we have found between the Municipality and the school director to reactivate the internal parking and eliminate the dangerous external stops at the school exit”.

“All together we asked for a particular focus on this site from the Province, which in the person of the president has undertaken to promptly proceed with the necessary interventions”, concludes Vocale.

“I am very satisfied to see the result of these works”, adds the president of the province Nobiletti. “We will have a modern and attractive structure at our disposal, which will be a point of reference not only for the city, but also for the neighboring towns. A particular feature of this swimming pool is the sliding roof, which transforms it into an outdoor swimming pool, an innovation which makes this structure one of a kind. There are two similar examples in Italy, and I am proud that our province has decided to invest in such an innovative and cutting-edge project.”
