With the good weather many of us want to organize some nice trips out of town. If we don’t want to travel too far, why not explore our Italy, so rich in history and places that should be rediscovered? Today we give you three reasons.

Three castles in the Marche, to explore now

An attraction that brings together adults and children: castles. Places full of charm and history that even the little ones like because of their aesthetics and the legendary stories they pass down. In our country there are many, some of which can be visited, others have even been converted to host traveling exhibitions and often cultural events in the summer period.

There is a region like that of the Marche which holds three of our immense territory. One is for example the Gradara Castle. Today it is considered one of the best preserved fortresses in our country, particularly suggestive due to the privileged position it occupies, on top of a hill. A great advantage in ancient times, when it was considered an important fort for the control of the territory, and today for the wonderful view it offers over the entire municipality of the same name and the Umbrian land in general.

It mainly consists of a fortress called a fortress which allows access to the beautiful village, and a wall still perfectly intact today, 800 meters long. Like many other reconverted places, Gradara has also become a sort of museum, according to estimates one of the most visited in the region. Various events have taken place here under the patronage of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage since 2014. In 2019 it is part of the Marche Museum Complex.

The Castle of Mondavio and the Rocca of Arquata del Tronto

In the pretty and small town of Mondavio in the province of Pesaro Urbino stands the beautiful Mondavio Castle, considered by art and architecture experts, a true jewel of the Italian Renaissance. What makes it even more special is the fact that it still retains the interior faithful to its origins.

This too, like Gradara, is used in different of its areas as a museum: boasts a beautiful armory and a historical re-enactment museum, which occupies five machines and a park displaying various war machines. Valuable examples of catapults, siege machines, designed by the Sienese architect Francesco Giorgio Martini.

The same one who took care of its general aesthetics in the 15th century at the behest of the then lord of Senigallia, Giovanni della Rovere. Did you know that Poste Italiane also recognized its value in 1980, also dedicating a 250 lire stamp to it. It is part of the Castelli d’Italia collection.

In the pretty municipality of Arquata del Tronto finally there is the fortress of the same name, built in medieval times to control the territory, a beautiful example of military architecture, but equally famous is the green park that surrounds it, full of beautiful paths waiting to be discovered. The castle was state property until 1890. Now it belongs to the Municipality of Arquata and is part of the list of national monuments of Italy. The castle is closely linked to the legend of the Apennine Sibyl, a mythological figure, a sort of Cassandra who predicted the future and apparently lived in the caves of the Sibillini Mountains.
