The Vicenza Classic Car Show pays homage to Marcello Gandini

Spring is the right time to do some tours and visit some trade fairs. This is why, for those who love classic cars, the Vicenza-IEG (Italian Exhibition Group) Fair cannot be missed, which inaugurates the first edition of Vicenza Classic Car Show to the public of enthusiasts. The event will be the occasion of a great tribute, that to Marcello Gandiniin the’ Celebrations Area of Pavilion 7 where six examples of Lamborghini Miura and Countach will be on display.

The Miura and the Countach

Miura, for those who still don’t know, is the name of a breed of fighting bulls, which became the name of the very successful Lamborghini, of which they were built, in total, 782 examples from 1966 to 1972, in three versions. The first is the P400presented at the 1966 Geneva Motor Show: very low, streamlined, sinuous, and fitted with a transverse central rear engine, unprecedented for the time, which inaugurated a new technological course and became a trademark. Then there is the version P400S and finally the Miura SV, chronologically the most recent. And it is precisely at the Vicenza Classic Car Show that you can admire three examples of P400S, two yellow and one blue, in the evocative original colours.

Moving on to the Countach, Marcello Gandini designed it starting from the extremes of the characteristics of the Miura. It is said that the name comes from a Bertone employee who, seeing the car, commented on it with a Piedmontese dialect expression “Countach!” which indicates “wonder”. It is equipped with a rear longitudinal engine (as reported in the initials LP) of 3,929 cc, and no one at the time could have imagined that it would have great success in the various variants called, respectively, LP 400, LP 400S, LP 500S, LP 500 4 valves and Countach 25th Anniversary, where the restyling benefits from the contribution of another name of excellence: Horacio Pagani.

In addition to an innovative aesthetic characterized by slender and angular lines on a low and light car with a tubular steel frame under an aluminum body, compared to the competition of the 70s the first series of the Countach also stood out on the market for its mechanics, with the typical Lamborghini V12 mounted in front of the rear axle but in a longitudinal position, with the gearbox in front, in order to move the weights towards the centre. Three different versions are on display in the Celebrations Area of the Vicenza Fair: one Blue LP 400S, a white LP 500 S and a blue LP 500 4 valves.
