In the end, the acceleration on the engineer Grazia Cosentino, also consecrated by the official centre-right parties, convinced the local leaders of Italia Viva to accept the pact and to support the former municipal manager, who can be considered a candidate strongly sponsored by the Renzians. This evening, they wanted to inaugurate the provincial headquarters of the party, in via Marconi, together with the engineer and their usual reference, the national parliamentarian Davide Faraone. The representatives of Italia Viva (at the table were the provincial secretary Giuseppe Ventura and the city coordinator Rochelio Pizzardi), immediately wanted to dispel the reputation of a Cosentino “imposed by Caltanissetta or Palermo”. “Instead it is a candidacy that comes from the bottom and was decided in the city”, they reported in front of several supporters, candidates and other party leaders (there was one of the local leaders Giuseppe Perna who was also a candidate in list IV) . The meeting was attended by, among others, DC commissioner Giuseppe Licata, another strong sponsor of the candidacy of the technical manager of Impianti Srr, now in the midst of political controversy. Faraone confirmed that the strategic choices of the local group have full support from the party. After all, the parliamentarian has always held the channel between Gela, Palermo and Rome. During his speech, he did not forget to mention the role of the then Renzi government in the local industrial reconversion, “which today makes the refinery a point of development and keeps it absolutely current in the transition compared to other petrochemicals”. Cosentino insisted, as he had done during the official presentation, on the burden of taking charge of a municipality completely weakened in terms of personnel and with a financial and indeed “organizational” crisis. “We will have to do a lot with little,” he commented.
