TOTAL BACKGROUND
Catanzaro and Cremonese will face each other for the 27th time in their history.
The 26 previous matches are divided as follows: 17 in Serie B, 8 in Serie C (3rd level) and 1 in the Italian Cup.
The first official meeting dates back to 27 January 1935 on the 14th day of the Serie B championship. B, with the Grigiorossi hosting Catanzaro at the Zini and taking advantage of the field factor by winning 1-0 thanks to Olmi’s penalty goal.
The most precise Giallorossi scorer against “Cremo” is Giovanni Corti, who scored 3 times in 2 different seasons, scoring a brace in the 1955-56 Serie C championship.

In the championship the two clubs have faced each other on 25 occasions, with a result that sees Catanzaro chasing their opponents. In fact, the Giallorossi have only won 4 victories with 18 goals scored against the 10 and 25 goals scored by the Tigers, 11 draws.
The last match dates back to 19 August 2023, played at the Zini in Cremona, on the 1st day of the current 2023-24 Serie B championship, with the Giallorossi returning to the cadet championship after 17 years and with the Grigiorossi just relegated from the top flight and aiming for an immediate return. Match marked by the sad news arriving shortly before the opening whistle, which informs of the passing of the great Carlo Mazzone and which upsets the approximately 700 Giallorossi fans who came to support the Eagles. Catanzaro plays with mourning on their arms in memory of the Mister who still holds the record for number of benches in Serie A in the history of Catanzaro football.
The final result was 0-0 but it is worth mentioning a couple of occasions that occurred to Catanzaro with Jari Vandeputte and Pietro Iemmello, a post hit by the grey-reds and a VAR intervention to avoid a penalty awarded by the referee to Cremonese.

The goals were scored by Carparelli in the 9th minute, who put Cremonese ahead, and by Giorgio Corona in the 52nd minute on a penalty awarded for a foul suffered by Corona himself resulting in a red card for Rossini.
A victory that Catanzaro has been missing since November 27, 1983, when on the 12th day of the 1983-84 Serie B championship a goal by Raimondo Marino in the 86th minute gave victory to the Giallorossi led on the bench by Antonio Renna.
