The weekend leading up to Christmas in Rome will be full of initiatives and events in the capital. From sports to parades to period parades, there will be many road closures and diversions for public and private traffic.

Appia Run

On the occasion of Christmas in Rome, the Appia Run will take place on Sunday 21 April. Now in its 25th edition, the unique race in the world with runners running on five different road surfaces will take place between the Baths of Caracalla, the Appia Antica and Parco della Caffarella. From 07:00 to 11:45 traffic will be suspended along the route and for this reason public transport 30, 118, 160, 218, 660, 628, 671, 714, 715 and 792 will be subject to diversions.

Christmas in Rome

From 10.30am to 1.30pm in the center (from Via dei Cerchi to the Circus Maximus), a parade in Roman period costume will take place, organized by the “Gruppo Storico Romano” for the Christmas celebrations in Rome. Closure to traffic on Via dei Cerchi and changes from 08:30 to bus lines 30, 40, 44, 46, 51, 60,62, 63, 64,70, 75, 80, 81, 83, 85, 87, 118, 160, 170, 190, 492,628, 715, 716, 781, 916F, C3 and H.

The processions

On Saturday 20 April from 09:00 to 14:00 approximately 10 thousand people will demonstrate between the Circus Maximus and Piramide for a trade union procession. The demonstrators will walk along Via del Circo Massimo, Viale Aventino, Piazza Albania, Viale della Piramide Cestia, Piazza di Porta San Paolo. For the smooth running of the initiative, lines 3L, 23, 30, 75, 77, 81, 83, 118, 160, 280, 628, 715, 716, 718, 719, 769, 775, C3 will be diverted. In addition to the changes to public transport, there is also a ban on parking on the roads along the event itinerary.

Also on Saturday from 6.00pm to 8.00pm, mobilization for the rights of transsexual people who will march from Piazzale Tiburtino to Viale dello Scalo di San Lorenzo. In order not to hinder the event, vehicles parked in Piazzale Tiburtino must be removed by 3pm. The procession will follow the following route: via Tiburtina, via degli Equi, via dei Volsci, largo degli Osci, via dei Sabelli, piazza dell’Immacolata, via degli Ausoni, via degli Enotri and via dei Sardi. The C3, 19Nav, 71 and 492 bus lines will undergo route changes so as not to hinder the event.

On Sunday, around 1,500 people will participate in the static demonstration called by the Sikh community in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II. For the duration of the event, lines 5, 14, 105, 360, 590, 649 will be diverted from 1pm to 6pm.

Construction sites

From 10:00 to 16:00 on Saturday 20 April, due to extraordinary maintenance work on the tracks of the Roma Ostiense station, railway traffic on the FL1 Orte–Fiumicino Airport, FL5 Roma–Civitavecchia and Leonardo Express lines will be subject to changes.

Other

Sunday 21 April from 11.30 to 13.00 at Fonte Nuova traffic prohibited on via Nomentana from via Monte Circeo for the “Showband and Majorettes Festival” event. For the exhibition, the circulation of line 337 will be modified, which will pass through Via di Tor Sant’Antonio, skipping 10 stops of its regular route.

Pedestrian area in via dei Fori Imperiali, divert bus lines 51, 75, 85, 87 and 118. In the Porta Portese area, usual holiday diversion for bus lines 170, 719 and 781.

Finally, for an event in Viale delle Baleniere, the C19 line diverts onto Via dei Velieri, with the temporary cancellation of six stops on the line on Viale delle Baleniere. The routes of lines C4, C13, 04 and connections C02 and C20 have also been diverted on via Isole del Cape Verde, via dei Velieri and viale Vasco de Gama.
