Evani remembers the Italian Cup won by Sampdoria over Ancona in 1994

Former Sampdoria player Evani recalls the Blucerchiati’s victory in the Italian Cup in 1994 against Ancona, the great surprise of the season

One of the protagonists of Sampdoria who won the Italian cup in 1994 was Chicco Evani. Together with Attilio Lombardo, Gialuca Vialli, Ruud Gullit, Roberto Mancini and many others it represented the flagship of the Club’s history which managed to win many trophies in the space of 5 years, even coming close to the Champions Cup in the final.

Evani himself wanted to commemorate that Italian Cup won againstAncona following the double comparison in the final. The Blucerchiati had eliminated all the strongest competitors and found themselves in the final against a Serie B team that had miraculously reached the final.

The first leg match ended 0-0 while in the return match the Blucerchiati won 6-1. Here is the comment from the former Blucerchiati midfielder:

«This success, despite having collected many trophies in my career, had a particular flavor, because I had never won the Italian Cup. The opponent was from Serie B, but in the first leg they had created problems and we had not gone beyond a goalless draw, with some suffering. Nothing is ever easy in football.”.
