Another home burglary in the hills, thieves in action in the morning (despite the alarm). Residents: “We live in worry”

Another home burglary in the hills area, this time in broad daylight. The episode dates back to last Wednesday, when the thieves went into action around 10 in the morning in a house in Via dei Colli: after waiting for the lady who lives there to leave the house, they tore down the railings and then carried out the heist, stealing jewelery and paintings of as yet unquantifiable value – but presumably hundreds, if not thousands of euros – before fleeing undisturbed. All this despite the alarm siren, which played continuously for at least a quarter of an hour. Until the woman returned, she was warned by her neighbor that something was wrong. But it was too late and the resident had no choice but to call the police.

Reporting yet another incident against residents in the hilly areas of the city is Francesco Cicognani Simoncinithe president of the ComiColli neighborhood committee, who has long been involved in reporting and preventing thefts in the area: “We thought we would be safe at least during the day, but this is not the case – he commented to BolognaToday –. We residents of the hills live constantly under stress: between November and January there was a theft a day, now the situation seems to have calmed down. We are all very worried.”

In February a year ago the committee presented a safety plan specifically designed to stem the phenomenon of home thefts which involves, among other things, the installation of around twenty cameras in the street, thus monitoring road intersections and the most sensitive residential areas and thus covering the entire hilly area. But, explains Cicognani Simoncini, the collaboration agreement with the Municipality and the Prefecture has been awaiting signature for a year: “It would integrate the neighborhood protocol, which is the basis of the plan and allows mutual help between residents, and private security devices such as alarms, railings and cameras. It is not the absolute solution but an important deterrent, in my opinion also applicable in other areas of the city. The signature was supposed to arrive at the beginning of the year and yet we heard nothing further. And as time passes, everything happens here.”
