the action of environmentalists, two French people blocked

The waters of Grand Canal to Venice colored red and green. This is what happened this afternoon, Friday 19 April, in the Venetian capital, the scene of a new blitz by climate activists. According to reports Handleit would have been some dye poured into water from a vaporetto of line 1, coming from the Giglio stop and heading towards the Accademia.

From what emerged it was a demonstrative action by the international movement “Extinction Rebellion“, however not organized by the Venetians who join the environmentalist group. The alleged perpetrators of the gesture would be two French touristswhich they were stopped by the police.

“I express my strong condemnation – said the president of the Veneto Region, Luca Zaia – for the action taken this afternoon by some climate activists who once again targeted our beautiful city, pouring a coloring substance into the Grand Canal of Venice that dyed the water green and red”.

“Venice has such visibility, especially these days, on the occasion of the inauguration of the Art Biennial and of the numerous collateral events – added Zaia – that gestures like these could become the showcase for similar actions. Venice must be defended and protectednot outraged and the opportunities for dialogueincluding on the climate and its changes, are many”.
