If you think it was cold today, don’t worry: the worst is yet to come.

In fact, yesterday the snow mixed with rain already fell in the mountainsespecially in the Lanzo Valleys and in the Pinerolo area, but on Monday, according to forecastin Piedmont we risk seeing the bows again even on the hills.

Not such an exceptional event if it were a faint dusting but the risk it is even that of «one of the latest snowfalls (at low altitude, below 500-600 meters above sea level) in recent decades for our Piedmont». To say it is Andrea Vuolo, meteorologist Rai Meteo and Tgr Piemonte, which specifies: «In the recent past, and in particular in 2016 and 2017, however, two events were remembered on May 1st with snow showers that accumulated several centimeters on the ground already from low mountain altitudes, but only above 600-900 meters altitude, among other things also causing a lot of damage to the vegetation due to the notable accumulation of heavy snow on the plants”.

This time, in theory, snow could make an appearance even lower. Vuolo always tells us why: «The cold extraction air arctic-maritime that will be thrown again from the heart of continental Europe towards Northern Italy already from Sunday afternoon-evening, combined with the influx of southern and eastern currents in the medium-lower layers of the troposphere, will give rise to widespread moderate rainfall and at times strong intensity on central-southern Piedmont, with possible heavy snowfalls over a good part of the Piedmontese Alpine arc already from 600-800 meters and with sometimes significant accumulations (even above 30-40 centimeters above 1,000-1,200 metres). From the latest updates, however, the chances of a snowfall are rising up the hills on Monday between Turin, Cuneo, Asti and lower Alessandriawith flakes that could potentially reach even close to the plains of lower Piedmont at times whitewashing some localities in the plains and hills of the Cuneo area, including the city of Cuneo».

In short, if you had collected your scarves and hats, perhaps it’s time to go and fish them out of the wardrobes.
