“plastic free” volunteers in action also in the Brindisi area

Celebrated on April 22nd every year at the behest of the United Nations, the 54th edition of World Earth Day is dedicated to the theme “Planet vs plastic”, with the firm desire to draw attention to the abuse of plastic materials in our daily lives , asking for a 60 percent reduction by 2040. An objective that sees Plastic Free Onlus at the forefront, with its over a thousand representatives and 250 thousand volunteers, since 2019.

The blue wave of Plastic free volunteers will be in action over the next weekend of Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st April on the beaches, along the river banks, in parks and public areas to raise awareness of plastic pollution which represents a danger not only for Nature but also for our own survival on the planet. An awareness raising that will have a concrete objective: freeing the environment from tons of plastic and abandoned waste.

Puglia and the province of Brindisi will also be protagonists with 22 events thanks to the determination and commitment of the local representatives and with the support of the University of Salento. Bad weather permitting, on Saturday 20th plastic free will be Campi Salentina, Spongano (Le), CarovignoCassano delle Murge (Ba), Manduria (Ta) and Sunday 21st in Bari, Acquaviva delle Fonti, Gioia del Colle, Molfetta, Monopoli, Sammichele di Bari, Valenzano (Ba), Lecce, Alessano, Casarano, Cutrofiano, Gagliano del Capo , Gallipoli, Salice Salentino, Taurisano, Veglie (Le), and again in the Brindisi area in Ceglie Messapica.

“We invite all citizens and families to take an active part in this fundamental initiative to raise awareness and pay attention to our territories – declares the Plastic Free Puglia regional representative, Luigi Schifano – The abandonment of plastic and waste causes serious consequences in our lives and only constant commitment and attention today will allow us to have a Planet tomorrow. The activities will continue on Monday 22nd at the Ekotekne complex (Room R13 building R1) of the University of Salento where the conference “Earth Day and the Zero Waste objective – From legal rules to real behaviors” will be held, which will see the participation of Luigi Schifano, contact person Regional Plastic Free (starts at 11.30am).
