UDINE – The hostage ring operated by the two human traffickers, accused of kidnapping for the purpose of extortion, sexual violence, injury and aiding and abetting illegal immigration, also passed through Udine. It is precisely in the Friulian capital that the two abandoned half of their prisoners. All men.

The arrests

The Police arrested a Pakistani and an Afghan, who are accused of violence against a 17-year-old of Syrian origin who fled with her family to Turkey during the war and from there, after the earthquake of February 2023, towards the countries of the European Union. An arrest warrant has been issued against an Albanian woman, wanted in the same investigation and untraceable. The matter is complex and the investigations have been difficult.

Abandoned on the highway

During the journey to Germany, the girl – with her father, mother, grandmother and brother – ended up in the hands of traffickers who separated women from men in Slovenia. The former were abandoned in a farmhouse in Reggio Emilia, the latter on the motorway near Udine. The 17-year-old was then taken elsewhere and her family members were forced to pay a ransom for her release. During that period, according to her reconstruction, she suffered abuse and violence, including a broken arm. Last May 30th she was found in Lodi by a petrol station attendant in a service area and the investigations began from there. The Police, coordinated by the Lodi Prosecutor’s Office and the Prosecutor’s Office at the District Anti-Mafia Directorate of Bologna, arrested the two foreigners. The two Mercedes used to take the family to Italy were also found. One of those arrested was caught in Croatia, the other was stopped by officers from the Modena Police Headquarters during a check.
