After the opening last April 22nd in Moliterno, on the occasion of World Earth Day, with the screening of the film “Futura” (2021) by Pietro Marcello, Francesco Munzi, Alice Rohrwacher, dedicated to the students of the “F. Petruccelli – G. Parisi”, the public program of “Rizomatica. New forms of coexistence”, a review of the arts and the environment organized by the Matera Basilicata 2019 Foundation and curated by Imma Tralli and Roberto Pontecorvo of Marea Art Project, with the patronage of the Municipalities of Matera, Moliterno and Pisticci.

On May 4th at 8pm at the Cinema “Il Piccolo” in Matera, there will be a screening and talk with the director Elisa Flaminia Hymnof the film “Women of the land” (2021), centered on a group of new generation farmers, active in various areas of southern Italy. They are farmers, breeders and educators, who have created a new lifestyle based on the self-production of organic food and on the creation of a local and global network that revolves around the earth. Each of them produces sustainability and memory in their own territory, together with organic garden products, oils, preserves, cheeses, communities and traditions. Five stories of women – Doris, Mariapia, Nanà, Marialuisa, Maura – who tell of a change: each of them came to the land and created a self-sustainability system, changing their relationship with consumption and the environment. Access to the screening is free, subject to availability.

The collective’s artistic residency will take place in Moliterno from 7 to 26 May Post Disaster, which aims to interpret the link – both physical and metaphorical – between Val d’Agri and Taranto through music. The two territories are in fact connected in an almost visceral way: an underground oil pipeline extends for 136 km connecting the mining center of Val d’Agri with the petrochemical plants of the port of Taranto. The rapid transformative processes of an industrial nature that unite these territories trigger the need for new negotiations between the landscape and the bodies that inhabit it. Today Val d’Agri is going through a delicate transition process, within which musical production (and the historical tradition linked to it) becomes an even more important and necessary element of identity. The Tarantino composer and musician Donato Epiro will dialogue with the harpists Francesca Stella, Antonella Pecoraro and Caterina Setaro of the Viggianese Harp Association, with the aim of producing a choral work in which sound experimentation meets the local musical tradition.

Post Disaster (Gabriele Leo, Gabriella Mastrangelo, Grazia Mappa, Peppe Frisino) is a multidisciplinary collective whose practice intersects spatial, performative and curatorial actions. Their research starts from the metaphor of the disaster understood as a territorial lens to investigate global tensions and dynamics. Their work has been exhibited in both institutional and independent spaces and platforms of art and culture including the Venice Biennale, MAXXI Museum, Triennale Milan, Malta Art Biennale, Cà Foscari University of Venice. Since 2018 they have been carrying out Post Disaster Rooftops, a long-term critical and spatial practice set on the rooftops of Taranto, a manifesto city of emergencies and urban crisis and contemporary ecology. Through the lens of the city the project fuels a collective practice that investigates the relationships between bodies and productive infrastructures within a broader Mediterranean context. The project was awarded by the Italian Ministry of Culture and was on display in the Italian Pavilion at the 18th Venice Architecture Biennale.
