what the new Italy course will be like in Bari

Redevelop an important road for transit and passage, currently in decay and neglect despite being in the center: the Municipality is thinking of a restyling of Corso Italia, the Murattiano artery that connects Libertà to the station. The project currently underway would concern, for now, the stretch between Via Quintino Sella and Piazza Moro, a segment characterized by various situations: the night-time presence of homeless people, in particular in the ‘niches’ of unused rooms under the Fal railway, until the swarm of passers-by and customers or on the front stretch, where there are restaurant, leisure (there is a well-known multiplex) and commercial activities.

For years there has been talk of a green redevelopment that could encourage, at least in the section closest to the station, the start of other activities by making the area less isolated at night, where in the recent past there have been no shortage of news stories. There are 800 thousand euros of Por Puglia funds available to Palazzo di Città. The interventions should include the planting of numerous trees, the resurfacing of the pavement with a slight widening of the pavements and the creation of a cycle path: “The project – the city councilor for Public Works, Nicola Mele, explains to BariToday – will also take into account the preferential lane of the future BRT rapid bus system” which will pass right through Via Quintino Sella to reach Piazza Moro where there will be at least one terminus.

The design is currently not finalized, although it is in the definitive phase. The documents will have to be accepted by the superintendence: “Within the year – the councilor points out – we intend to complete the project”, and then presumably start the construction sites in 2025. No forecast, however, for the redevelopment of the other stretch of Corso Italia, the one in the Libertà district, the most critical from the point of view of degradation, recently equipped with anti-bivouac fences installed under the porticoes of the Fal railways which, according to residents, would not have had any particular deterrent effects. In fact, at the moment there is no allocation for the reconstruction of the portion of the road.
