The latest events that have affected the institutions in the province of Avellino confirm the gravity of the moral condition of public life. The facts that emerged, even before being ascertained as crimes, demonstrate that a large part of the ruling class called upon to govern in the interests of citizens actually pursues reprehensible objectives and behaviors, which too often derogate from the rigor and principles that justify political commitment.
The dissolution due to mafia infiltration of the Municipality of Monteforte Irpino and of the Municipality of Diecici, the investigation into the Alto Calore and that into the Municipality of Avellino impose on the political class an examination of conscience which leads to the adoption of consequent behaviour.
It is essential that parties and movements, in particular those that have always represented the reference of the cultures most attentive to social commitment, commit themselves to a moral turning point, adopting behaviors resulting in a clear break with what has happened up to now.
Our association asks those who are currently involved in the communities called to vote to courageously guarantee the necessary and profound renewal of the electoral lists. Today more than ever the credibility of the political proposal, especially in the eyes of young people disillusioned after years of moral drift, passes through the choice of women and men free from conditioning and ties to worlds that have dangerously taken over in this city and in this province.
We ask political forces to give space and trust to an indisputable ruling class, saying enough to the logic of vote-bearers and low-profile compromises. This is an indispensable first step to build change and a new season of civil commitment in which the noble tradition of democratic Catholicism can also be recognized.
