training experience for Deffenu aeronautical students

Olbia. The students of the aeronautical course at the ITCG “A. Deffenu” of Olbia lived an extraordinary orientation experience which took place yesterday morning, 18 April, with a visit to the Decimomannu Air Force base.

Accompanied by their teachers, the aspiring pilots and controllers were able to immerse themselves in the fascinating and complex world of military aviation. The day began with a warm welcome at the base briefing room, where Lt.Col. pilot Raffaele Malafronte provided a detailed overview of the tasks and purposes of the flight department, illustrating the organization and the aerial means used.

The kids had the opportunity to ask questions and satisfy their curiosities about life and work within the Air Force. Subsequently, the visit focused on the SAR (Search and Rescue) department hangar, where the students were able to closely observe the helicopters used for search and rescue missions. They then moved on to the flight line, where they admired the aircraft used for air defense and other institutional tasks of the Air Force.

After an interactive lunch break in the base canteen together with the staff, the students had the honor of visiting the control tower and radar room. The air traffic controllers explained the functioning of the traffic management system, both military and civil, of the Decimomannu base and the Cagliari Elmas airports, answering the questions of the young visitors with patience and competence.

The day ended with a visit to the simulator room and equipment of the International Flight Training School (IFTS), the heart of advanced training for military pilots from all over the world. An experience that certainly inspired the students, opening up new perspectives in the field of aviation.

The coordinator of the aeronautical course, Professor Altera, thanks Colonel Malafronte and all the base staff for the welcome and opportunity offered to the students. He hopes that this visit could be just the beginning of a closer collaboration, with some of his boys who could return to the base not only as visitors, but as participants in flight courses, with the aim of becoming future pilots or air traffic controllers.
