Monza: An inclusive ride to inaugurate the new cycle path

An inclusive ride to inaugurate the new cycle path on Via Aquileia in Monza, completed at the end of February. It will be held on Sunday 21 April thanks to the Cooperativa Nuovo Millennio and Fiab MonzainBici.

An inclusive ride to inaugurate the new cycle path

The inauguration is scheduled for 11 am, at the intersection with via Paisiello while the inclusive ride will wind through various city cycle paths: a cycle excursion of around 20 kilometers in which around a hundred people will participate who, before crossing the new stretch of via Aquileia, will stop in the AUSER gardens of the Civic Center on via D’Annunzio in the San Rocco district. The Municipality of Monza contributes to the implementation of the initiative by supporting insurance costs and the creation of information material to promote soft mobility.

“The new stretch of cycle path on Via Aquileia – observes the Mobility Councilor Giada Turato – enriches the city’s precious network of cycle and pedestrian paths, which is essential for ensuring sustainable mobility accessible to anyone. Inaugurating it with inclusive cycling is an excellent way to underline the social value and collective usefulness of routes dedicated to bikes and gentle mobility in the city”.

The pedaling

The event is included in the “Festival of Conviviality” organized by the Novo Millennio cooperative together with the TikiTaka Network and Imagineabili Ri.Sorsi, as part of the Prossimo Sport project financed by the RIUSE Network. The initiative promotes cycling mobility, in particular for fragile subjects. In fact, the operators and young people of the Cooperativa L’archè Arcobaleno of Bologna will also be present, who on the occasion of their twentieth anniversary have created a “cycle trip” starting from Bologna and arriving in Rome. This is a journey made with special vehicles: pedal-assisted tandems capable of pedaling even people in wheelchairs.

The itinerary

The ride will start at 9.30 from Piazza San Paolo, then cross the central Piazza Trento e Trieste and arrive – via the Villoresi and Via Buonarroti cycle paths – at the San Rocco Civic Center at 10.45. The will be held at 11am inaugural moment of the via Aquileia cycle path, with the tour then continuing along via Borgazzi and viale Regina Margherita and viale Lombardia up to the gardens of the Villa Reale where another short stop is planned. We will return between 12.30 and 1.30 pm to the Rosmini Center in the San Rocco area, the final stage of the route.

The new cycle path

The cycle path on via Aquileia – created thanks to co-financing from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, for a total cost of around 150,000 euros – runs along the stretch between via Paisiello and via Borgazzi, on the even street numbers side. It is 300 meters long and connects two sections already built previously, continuing on via Montesanto and then joining via Borgazzi and viale Campania.
