They were sentenced by the Treviso court, upon acceptance of the prosecutor’s requests Barbara Sabattini, more than 6 years each, with an abbreviated trial, the two young people aged 19 and 20 (also a minor in the gang) who in February last year were surprised by the Carabinieri of Vedelago (Treviso) while they were kidnapping a fifty-year-old in an abandoned farmhouse : Apparently the gang was inspired by the American series To Catch a Predator. The same fate had already befallen seven other people.
The sentence
The crimes for which they were convicted are kidnapping, aggravated robbery, improper use of credit cards and carrying objects capable of offending. The adults were taken to prison in Treviso, while the minor was accompanied to the first reception center in the capital of the Marche.
The lured pedophiles and the trap
It worked like this: twenty-year-olds went on dating chats, pretended to be gay minors and looked for someone to lure. An appointment was made in a farmhouse with the pedophiles who then proposed homosexual relationships to the fake minors. Once there, they were stunned with a taser, kidnapped and robbed. During one of the beatings, a report was received at the Carabinieri station in Castelfranco Veneto. At that point a patrol goes to the scene and sees a boy coming out of the farmhouse, taking a bicycle and running away. The soldiers stop him for a check, notice his nervousness, enter the farmhouse and find a man tied and gagged.
The American series
The three had begun to act as early as 2022, inspired by an American series, To Catch a Predator, which is also found on YouTube. Compensation has also been provided for the victims, two of whom, however, remain untraceable. The defendants’ lawyers have not ruled out appealing.
