“A cornerstone of Orlando”

Bologna, 19 April 2024 – Giovanna Grignaffini she died in Bologna after a long illness. She was 74 years old, a politician, professor of Dams at Unibo and a film scholar. She was also a point of reference for feminism in the city and she was among the founders of the Women’s Center of Bologna.

In sharing the news on social media, the Women’s Center writes: “We put aside the great pain and we would like to greet you with immense affection and gratitude because Giovanna was a pillar of Orlando. His parliamentary work he brought great benefits to women’s associations and our current headquarters in the former convent of Santa Cristina is the result of his decisive commitment. Anyone who wants to say goodbye to Giovanna will be able to do so in her “home”, in Women’s center in via del Piombo 5Sunday April 21st at 10 o’clock”.

In his message of condolence the mayor of Bologna and the municipal administration define it as “an important figure for our city and for the many battles she carried out on behalf of women. Grignaffini she was one of the founders ofOrlando association (of which she was also president from 1989 to 1992) and of Documentation Center, research and initiative of the women of Bologna managed in agreement between the Orlando association and the Municipality of Bologna. Thanks also to his commitment, today it is recognized as one of the most important documentation centers in the European panorama”.

Giovanna Grignaffini was born in Fountain (in the province of Parma) in 1949 and graduated in Philosophy in Bologna. He came too elected deputy in the ranks of the Progressives during the 1994 elections, reconfirmed in 1996 and 2001. In 2006 her parliamentary mandate ended.
