Sara Doris at Villa Jucker in Legnano, «I present to you “Ennio, my father” and his values»

«My father’s spirit is still here with us, we feel it every day as we carry forward its values.” Intense Sara Doris, daughter of the well-known banker and founder of Mediolanum, while still remembering with some emotion her parent who passed away in 2021: a giant from times gone by who left a legacy of profound cultural and emotional baggage. And she knows it well She will be vice president of Banca Mediolanum, of which his brother Massimo is now CEO, who presented his book “Ennio my father” on Thursday 18 April in a packed Giare room at Villa Jucker in Legnano. Here she, accompanied by the journalist Pier Augusto Stagi, revealed to the attentive audience anecdotes and details about the life of the founder of the bank. The intent is not only to remember the well-known banker “who everyone knows because he was as he presented himself: transparent”, but also to transmit his values, “to leave them as a legacy to the community and also to those who come after us”.

During the evening it was remembered that Sara, in addition to holding key roles within Banca Mediolanum and the Mediolanum Foundation, also chairs the Ennio Doris Foundation. Founded in September 2022, after its founder passed away in 2021, to support deserving students from disadvantaged backgrounds, the foundation is another means through which Ennio Doris’ legacy continues to live on. A point shared with the Legnanese family which, as underlined by president Gianfranco Bononi, continues to give space to young people with scholarships.

Dad’s values

The most important legacy left by Ennio Doris for his daughter are those solid values ”that he taught us and guide us in life” such as honesty, family or the importance of keeping one’s word. Concepts that seem to be from the past, especially now in a moment of profound social crisis like today’s, but in reality they always prove to be current: «They remain over time – Sara specifies -, they never disappear. Values are like roots: they remain and develop deeply, while the leaves change.” The clear example, for the author, lies in transparency: «My father was an honest man, on whom you could count. He has always been clear, transparent: he made himself known for what he was. Convinced that lies come to light in the long run. This way of life was not only in the family sphere, but also in the workplace.” A book to tell an adventurethat of a father, an entrepreneur and a man who grew up in poverty in the village of Tombolo who, with a long-term vision and generosity, managed to build the success of the “great Mediolanum family” from scratch.
