This year marks the 70th anniversary of Italian Catholic Scout Adult Movement (MASCI) born in Rome on 20 June 1954. An experience that has always walked alongside the scout associations (first Asci and Agi then, with their merger, Age). To celebrate the anniversary, and on the occasion of Earth Day, Masci, with the motto “more life to life”, organized an event in Cesena to Sunday 21 April with the support of Plastic Freea voluntary association founded in 2019 with the aim of informing and raising awareness as many people as possible about the dangers of plastic pollution.
Sunday’s appointment, with departure at 9 from Piazza del Popolo and the Park for Fabio and conclusion with the final circle at the Baden Powell Park (Hippodrome) was conceived as a «concrete initiative open to all to live and make the values of scouting live – explain the organizers -. With a city waste collection we will clean the city and we will give a concrete sign of active citizenship». All scout groups in the city, parishes, voluntary associations, families and sensitive citizens are invited to the event.
The first Masci community (Cesena 1) was born in 1995 at the parish of Madonna delle Rosewith the assistant of the then parish priest Don Mike Bertino. Later, she moved to Capuchin convent. In 2002 some of the same people formed the Cesena 2 “Don Mike Bertino” community which today is based at the parish of San Domenico and is made up of about ten members. Another community was born in 2004: Masci Cesena 6 at the parish of San Paolo dedicated to Don Vito Gentili, with the motto “Life is a great game to be played with your hands, feet and heart”. This is the largest community today with around 30 adults. A further community is Masci Cesena 17, near the parish of Santo Stefano. To date she has started theprocess for official recognition and has 13 adults.
