The general assemblies of the CGIL of Novara and of the VCO met at the Phenomenon of Fontaneto to take stock after the first months of mobilization and to launch the next initiatives, above all, the collection of signatures for the four referendums that the CGIL will collect in starting from April 25th.
About twenty interventions featured workers, male and female pensioners, touching on issues such as public health, differentiated autonomy, wages, precarious employment, taxation, social security, young people, gender gap, migration, peace, welfare state and labor market .
The works involved over 400 delegates and were opened by the General Secretary of CGIL Novara and VCO Attilio Fasulo and concluded by the National CGIL Secretary Maria Grazia Gabrielli who in their interventions clarified – among other points – the questions for which the objective of collecting over 1 million signatures was set.
The objectives of the Referendums are the cancellation of the Jobs Act: Illegitimate dismissal in companies with over 15 employees provides for the only compensation based on years of service. The CGIL wants to reintroduce the right to be reinstated at work. There is also the abolition of the Compensation Cap: For companies with fewer than 15 employees, currently with six monthly salaries, the CGIL wants to bring the discretion back to the judges in defining the fair compensation without basing it only on the duration of the contract and with a reduced ceiling. The cancellation of the Abuse of the Fixed-Term Contract: Reintroduce the obligation to provide reasons and a limit of 24 months for extensions and renewals. But also the expansion of workplace safety: In particular in procurement; currently clients are not responsible for accidents and professional illnesses that are traced back to companies that receive an activity under contract. The CGIL wants to reduce this lack of responsibility to guarantee greater attention to workplace safety and reduce workplace deaths.
