On April 17th we celebrate the “international day of peasant struggle”, established in memory of Eldorado Dos Carajas massacre, occurred on the same day in 1996, in which 19 peacefully protesting farmers were killed by Brazilian police. In Andria, today Friday 19 April at 7.00 pm, in the conference room of the G. Ceci Library, in Piazza Sant’Agostino, the volunteers of Casa Acc. SM Goretti want to honor the international day of peasant struggle by focusing on the thesis work in “contemporary history” entitled “Fifty years of peasant struggles in the Land of Bari: the case of Andria” created by Daniela Fortunato, social worker and volunteer of Casa Acc. SMGoretti, who passed away prematurely.
The event is a preview of the events scheduled for the April Fair. After the institutional greetings from the Mayor Giovanna Bruno and the Councilor for the Future Daniela Di Bari, we will get to the heart of the conference moderated by Luigi Antonucci (Volunteer Casa Acc. SM Goretti). Speakers: Giuseppe de Leonardis (former secretary of FLAI CGIL Puglia) “The role of the labor movement in the 70s and 80s”; Vito di Bari (historian/ former secretary of Federbraccianti CGIL Andria) “Land, work and democracy”, prof. Mario Spagnoletti (university professor of contemporary history) “The labor struggles between bargaining and revolution”.
