It has been known for some time that the issue linked to the future of the areas of the former Rodriquez shipyards in Pietra Ligure was dear to the minority councilor Mario Carrara. However, it is difficult to imagine that the evening of presentation of the redevelopment project for the former shipyards could represent an opportunity for the opposition representative to take a real stand against the restyling project hypothesized by the owners in agreement with the Municipality.
And yet that was the case, with Carrara literally “sliding” when the credits were rolling on the evening at the Moretti theatre. The opposition representative, who already in the phases preceding the presentation had distributed some leaflets protesting the future of the former construction sites outside the theatre, first attempted in vain to trigger a debate with the mayor after which he went on stage trying to explain the his reasons and reiterating his opposition to the work presented shortly before.
“To cover me they also turned off the music so I couldn’t speak – declared the person directly concerned – I spoke and said things as they are, not things as De Vincenzi would like, because we are against the construction site being completely filled with concrete. We need areas for services, greenery and parking, we don’t need the port and we don’t need the construction site: we need 600 meters of beaches. The construction site is needed for the city that exists, not for the convenience of the builders“.
The surprise move by the minority councilor (and an almost certain mayoral candidate from the list that will oppose the one led by De Vincenzi, even if the official announcement is still missing – ed.) first shocked and then divided those present: there were those who left the room and those who stopped to listen to his considerations. An evening finale that brought with it polemical consequences that are unlikely to end any time soon.
