Rimini Seminar, conference “Giuseppe Dossetti politics between Constitution and Gospel” Friday 19 April, 8.30 pm at the Seminar Theatre.
A very current thought

Is there compatibility between the Gospel and the Constitution? And how can it be translated into politics? Or is it an impossible convergence?
Is there a possibility of doing politics today, in Italy but also in our territories, in our cities, starting from these two great references?

The Gramsci Rimini Institute, in collaboration with the Social Pastoral Office of the Diocese and the ISSR “Alberto Marvelli”, organizes Friday 19 April at 8.30 pm, at the Teatro del Seminario Episcovile (via Covignano 259, Rimini, entrance free) a meeting dedicated to the figure of Don Giuseppe Dossetti who dedicated his life to these issues.

Priest, theologian and founder of the monastic community, Giuseppe Dossetti was one of the most original and profound politicians of the immediate post-war period.

Born in Cavriago (Reggio Emilia) in 1913, he dedicated himself to teaching at the Cattolica of Milan with Giuseppe Lazzati. After 8 September 1943 he returned to Reggio Emilia, approached the anti-fascist movement and joined the National Liberation Committee (CNL) as part of the Christian Democrats.
After the Liberation, Dossetti was deputy national secretary of the DC and was elected to the Constituent Assembly, actively participating in the small group that wrote the text of the Constituent Charter.

In the mid-1950s Dossetti left political activity, became a priest and founded the ecclesial community of Monteveglio (Bologna). However, still in 1994 he will participate in the birth of the Committees in defense of the Constitution.
There are three aspects of Dossetti’s thought which, due to their relevance, have led the Gramsci Institute to organize this meeting:

– Do not consider Fascism as a “parenthesis” after which to return to the pre-fascist Liberal State, but to aim for a state form in which the role of intermediate bodies is a guarantee of balanced development (“the market cannot operate normally in conditions of strong economic inequality”).
– The vision of a constitutional text that is not fixed to the fundamental assumptions, but dynamic, that is, capable of inducing ordinary legislative acts, based on the principles of the Charter.
– The clear option for a mixed economy, based on a Keynesian model, with a strong role of the State, supported by the vitality of the “natural communities” that sprout in society.

Dossetti’s thoughts are equally interesting from an ecclesial point of view. He was extraordinarily attentive to spiritual values, based on meditation on Sacred Scripture and the Fathers of the Church, and on the processes of change in civil society, a true apostle of a Christianity incarnated in history. A man of great intellectual and moral rigor, he always advocated and – experienced firsthand, even in the political sphere – relationships based on mutual respect and was one of the main interpreters of the writing of art. 7 of the Constitution, on the relations between State and Church in Italy.

Parking inside the seminar is available.
