PESCARA. The “SeI a Teatro” (Stories and Ideals at the Theater) exhibition at the Cordova in Pescara hosts the preview of the show “But what war is there?” tomorrow (9 pm). produced by the Compagnia La Torre di Babele, written and directed by Michele Di Mauro and starring the director with Luigi Ciavarelli, Lina Bartolozzi, Martina D’Addazio. The show is the third appointment of the series conceived and directed by Milo Vallone and organized by Tam Tam Communications and the Cantiere Teatrale Adriatico and takes the spectator back to July ’43. Until then Abruzzo had not had “direct contact” with the war and the conflict was experienced as a distant event. The only visible sign of the ongoing tragedy was, in 15 municipalities including Sulmona, the presence of internment camps for citizens of hostile nations. The start of the bombing of Pescara in August changed everything. Following 8 September and the escape of Vittorio Emanuele III and Pietro Badoglio, the region was occupied by German troops who organized the defense on the Gustav line, which crossed the region and settled on the banks of the Sangro. While the allies intensified the aerial bombardments on many cities in Abruzzo, there were massacres by the Germans such as the one at Sella Ciarelli near Teramo as a response to the attack of the partisans of Bosco Martese, the October revolt in Lanciano, the shooting at Badia di Sulmona and many others. «The main purpose of this project», we read in the presentation of the show, «is to tell some of the events surrounding 8 September 1943, which marks the 80th anniversary. Through an immediate language like that of the Theatre, 4 characters represent the reasons of one faction or another in the field in those dark times, with their stories, their emotions, their ideologies, fears, but also with their hopes. After 80 years, memory must be cultivated so that those events are not repeated, but it is equally important to find a pacification of the different souls who are heirs of that period.”
