The safest airport in the world is Fiumicino. Already named best European airport by the Airport Council International (Aci) World association, the “Leonardo da Vinci” confirms itself among the best at an international level in the 2024 SkyTrax ranking, winning the prize for safest in the world, the first Italian airport to win this award. The Roman airport also earned a place in the general ranking of the World Airport Awards, based on the judgment of travelers and considered the most prestigious awards in the aviation sector at an international level.

The safety award at Fiumicino airport

The rankings are drawn up based on a survey submitted to passengers of over 550 airports at an international level, through which they express an opinion on their experience in airports around the world, giving a rating on various parameters, from airport services and infrastructure, to check-in and arrivals, from shopping to security and departures.

The CEO of Skytrax, Edward Plaisted, announced the “Leonardo da Vinci” award for the safest airport in the world, explaining that “Rome Fiumicino Airport has significantly invested in technologies and services with the aim of guaranteeing passengers an efficient and safe travel experience. We are delighted that it has been recognized as the airport with the best airport security processes for travelers around the world.”

During the ceremony, at the Passenger Terminal Expo in Frankfurt, Marco Stramaccioni, Managing Director of ADR Security, collected the award: “We are very proud of this award – he declared – which recognizes the great investments that Rome Airports has achieved in the field of safety in recent years, thanks to the great work of our team and the precious support of the most sophisticated technologies, both in Fiumicino and Ciampino airports”.

“This award – he added – demonstrates our great commitment to the daily improvement of the services and infrastructures present at the airport to guarantee a travel experience to remember for the millions of passengers who depart from or arrive in the Italian capital. It is also from the promotion and implementation of the safety in all its aspects which reflects our mission to outline the airport of the future”.

The ranking of the best in the world

Fiumicino airport, best airport in Europe 2024, also ranks among the top in the world in the SkyTrax ranking of the best airports on the planet, rising from 13th to 12th position. At the top of the list is that of Doha, Qatar, which surpasses the Singapore Chani at the top. Overall, the ratings of the Asian airports are excellent, considering that Seoul (South Korea) is in third place, followed by the two in Tokyo, Haneda and Narita, and Dubai’s climb from 17th to seventh place.

Europe is represented in the top ten by Charles de Gaulle in Paris (sixth), Munich airport, as well as those of Zurich and Istanbul, in eighth, ninth and tenth place. But looking at the bottom of the ranking, according to travelers’ votes, in last position is that of Berlin-Brandenburgwhich was supposed to open in 2011 and instead was inaugurated in 2020, due to financial and administrative scandals, failures of contracting companies, problems with security systems.

Also trailing the top 100 positions a series of American airports: in 93rd place is JFK from New York (which climbs 5 positions), in 97th place is Logan from Boston and in 99th Detroit.
