The Verona Public Prosecutor’s Office has concluded the preliminary investigations against the multinational pharmaceutical research company Aptuit, whose laboratories are in the Verona capital, adding the veterinarian and the former president of the company to the register of suspects. This was reported today by the Anti-Vivisection League, which had filed a complaint. The charges are animal cruelty and unnecessary killing. For the Lav “the seizure of 25 animals including dogs and monkeys by the largest multinational operating in the pharmaceutical sector in Italy is historic news: they were saved from a fate of suffering within those walls, where together with thousands of dogs and monkeys are subjected to injections, samples, toxicity tests that lead to death after long agony and implants of telemetry probes, all in the dark of public opinion and in unacceptable conditions”.

“According to the results of the preliminary investigations by the Prosecutor’s Office – continues the association’s note – the company did not respect the minimum animal management criteria required by law, thus causing serious physical and psychological damage to the animals”. Following the Lav requests and the intervention of the Verona Forestry Carabinieri Group, at the end of October 2021 the Verona Prosecutor’s Office ordered investigations into the multinational, which resulted in the seizure of seven beagle dogs in April 2022, of all the marmoset monkeys present at the time of the inspection inside Aptuit and seven Javan macaques, with the opening of investigations.
