Another multi-organ harvest was carried out – we read in the press release – at the “San Giuseppe Moscati” hospital in Aversa thanks to the efforts made by the Medical and Nursing Team of the Anesthesia and Resuscitation Unit directed by Dr. Eufrasia Silvestro. The donor was a young woman (…) suffering from a serious brain pathology, the evolution of which led to brain death. Having taken note of the patient’s clinical conditions, Dr. Umberto Di Vincenzo, in his capacity as Local Coordinator for organ and tissue sampling and donation, made the regular report to the Medical Director of the Presidium, who – the press release continues – promptly convened the Medical College to ascertain brain death. The medical board, composed of Dr. Adriana Correra, Doctor of the Health Management, Dr. Annalisa Fontana, Anesthetist/Resuscitator and Dr. Antonio Reia, Neurologist, ascertained the death using neurological criteria. The family members, managing to go beyond their profound pain, expressed their non-opposition to the removal of organs and tissues, demonstrating – the statement continues – of great solidarity and generosity.
Once again at the Anesthesia and Resuscitation Unit, the maintenance-removal-transplantation process of organs and tissues was activated effectively and efficiently through the fruitful collaboration between the Local Coordinator and the staff of the CRT (Regional Transplant Centre) and of all the medical, nursing – we read again – and socio-health personnel relating to the Intensive Care Unit and the Operating Unit. (…) were taken: the liver by the AORN Cardarelli team of Naples and the kidneys by the Salerno team, the three organs were transplanted in the Campania Region. The Director of the Anesthesia and Resuscitation Unit of the “SG Moscati” hospital, Dr. Eufrasia Silvestro, expresses her gratitude to the Corporate Strategic Management for the constant attention, support and sensitivity demonstrated in supporting and enhancing all healthcare activities, allowing – continues the press release – to express high quality levels such as the execution of organ and tissue sampling, which in themselves represent a significant quality indicator in the evaluation of the activity of a Resuscitation Department.
