It snows in the Alps

Phase of cold bad weather arriving in Italy: with the expected drop in temperatures, the snow will also return at increasingly lower altitudes in the Alps and Apennines. And be careful because the white flakes could return to be seen even at hill altitudes.

From the day of Thursday 18 April the passage of a cyclone, continuously fed by very cold and unstable currents, will cause intense thunderstorms, especially in the North East and the Centre. As the hours pass, this vortex will attract increasingly colder air of Arctic origin, literally making temperatures plummet.
For this reason, the snowfall rate will drop rapidly with the flakes making their appearance from 800/900 meters above sea level on the reliefs of Trentino Alto Adige, Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia. Not only that: this time the snow will also return to the mountains Apennines with flakes up towards i 900/1000 meters above sea level.

Our attention then shifts at the weekend and early next week when a second, and even colder cyclone, descending from Northern Europe, it will hit Italy, starting a phase of bad weather with winter-like characteristics. In addition to the further drop in temperatures we expect heavy snowfall until hill (500 meters above sea level) in the Ligurian interior, Piedmont (Cuneo, Monferrato, Langhe, Turin valleys) and Valle d’Aosta. Lots of snow also in the rest of the Alps, with flakes from 900 meters above sea level.

It will be for all intents and purposes a notable weather event if we consider that we are now towards the end of April and that we are coming from a period of anomalous heat; in recent years we are increasingly witnessing one climate extremization caused by the greater potential energy at play which determines an exasperation of contrasts between different air masses (frost descending from the North Pole, heat ascending from Africa) with Italy right in the middle of the battlefield between these important figures atmospheric.
