The Animal Protection and Welfare Degree Course and WWF Abruzzo met students and enthusiasts to learn about two iconic species of our Region: the Kentish plover and the Marsican brown bear

TERAMO – The seminar “Volunteers for nature!” organized as part of the Degree Course in Animal Protection and Welfare in collaboration with WWF Abruzzo. The seminar allowed the students who participated to learn about the activities implemented by the Association for the protection of two species that are symbols of Abruzzo biodiversity, the Brother And the Marsican brown bear.

Dante Caserta of WWF Teramo described the Salvafratino Abruzzo project, promoted by the Torre del Cerrano Marine Protected Area in collaboration with the WWF and many other local associations aimed at safeguarding and protecting the Fratino, a symbolic species of the coastal environment. Sefora Inzaghi, director of the WWF Oasis and Regional Nature Reserve “Gole del Sagittario” talked about the WWF Orso 2×50 project which aims to double the population of the Marsican brown bear by 2050, describing the characteristics of the species as well as the actions to be put in place to make coexistence with man possible.

Also speaking are Prof. Angela di Cesare and Dr. Carmine Merola.

The initiative, as well as others implemented in past years, was carried out within the framework of the agreement stipulated between WWF Italy and the University of Teramo and which aims to collaborate on topics of common interest, in particular on the protection of some species present in Abruzzo through the implementation of WWF projects.

Students will thus be able to carry out training and internship activities together with WWF Volunteers both within projects linked to individual specific species and as experiences to be carried out in WWF Oases in order to both observe the problems linked to conservation from within and to experience first-hand the management of coexistence between humans and animals, as well as learn to collect and interpret the challenges linked to the world of environmental protection in a proactive way.

In general, young people are invited to actively participate in associative life and to become volunteers for nature, so that they can dedicate some of their time to the environmental cause and make their contribution as aware citizens within the territories in which they live. and they study.
