We run to help cancer patients, we run for our own personal health, for prevention, we run to spend time together in the open air, we run to support those who take care of those who suffer. On April 21st, the fifth walk for life organized by the local section of Lilt will begin in Legnano, with the contribution of the Bcc of Busto Garolfo and Buguggiate, with its operational arm Ccr Insieme Ets, which deals with the members’ mutual fund.
A charity walk to support Lilt
The event has the patronage of the Municipality of Legnano, the participation of the Legnanese Family and the Asst Ovest Milanese, where the volunteers work, and the support of the Ticino Olona Community Foundation, Orobie Nordic Walking, T-Clair and By hand.
The departure is set for 10.30 at Villa Jucker, in Corso Matteotti, number 3 in Legnano. An aperitif will be provided for participants upon arrival. Registrations can be made on site from 9.30 am, or at the Lilt in Legnano.
The registration fee of 10 euros will be donated to the activities of the Legnano association for prevention and assistance to cancer patients. Children are free, four-legged friends are welcome.
The fanfare of the Bersaglieri Aurelio Robino of Legnano will accompany the event.
The objectives of the race and charity
“Our motto is “prevention is living” with this spirit we have arrived at the fifth edition of the walk for life. Movement is essential for prevention and on Sunday we can do it together”, explains Anna Daverio, outgoing president of Lilt detachment of Legnano
“The work that this association carries out towards those who suffer is an example to follow”, declares Roberto Scazzosi, president of the Bcc of Busto Garolfo and Buguggiate. “As a bank we concretely support cancer prevention activities. In the founding values of the BCCs there is the principle of increasing the well-being of the area where we operate, economically, but not only, culturally and also with regards to people’s health. Never before has the activity of these people been as precious as in recent years, with the increase in cancer cases even at a young age.”
The Lilt delegation of Legnano has a new coordinator, Silvana Gatti who declares: “I have taken on this new role with seriousness and commitment. Contact with this reality made me discover the joy of small things and the importance of helping those who are in a fragile condition due to illness.”
Lilt volunteers always present in the hospital
The volunteers, in addition to periodic prevention activities, are present daily at the Legnano hospital. Here they manage a reception and information desk at the entrance, but above all they assist cancer patients, both in the ward and at the day hospital, in collaboration with all the medical staff. They also accompany patients to therapies in the local hospitals and in Milan.
They are constantly looking for volunteers, currently around fifty people alternate, who before entering service are trained through a course established by the LILT of Milan in collaboration with the Cancer Institute.
In support activities for the sick, continuous training is carried out for volunteers followed by psychologists, given the delicate nature of the work carried out with the frail. “We must be strong to help them,” concludes Anna Daverio.
Sunday will be a moment of celebration, of health, of sharing values, of support for those who help people who are suffering at the moment. Do not miss!
