The Umbria Region brings to Vinitaly projects that combine culture, tourism promotion and food and wine

Culture, environmental beauty and food and wine are at the center of the projects that the Umbria Region brought to Vinitaly in two moments that gathered a large audience and in the presence of Government institutions and other Regions: these are initiatives designed to promote tourism sustainable that can attract new visitors while also enhancing the identity values of the region.

And it is precisely on the occasion of the great showcase offered by the Verona Fair that the Departments of Tourism and Agriculture of the Umbria Region, together with Tuscany, Emilia-Romagna, Marche and Lazio, wanted to launch, “Vini e Cammini”, a new project of promotion financed by the Ministry of Tourism in the name of promoting slow tourism and food and wine excellence, which kicks off after the great success of “Cammini Aperti”, the most important national event dedicated to the Cammini, with 42 excursions held throughout Italy , thanks to a joint promotion strategy of all the Regions.

On Monday 15 April, inside the Masaf Palaexpo, Umbria together with Lazio, Marche, Tuscany and Emilia-Romagna therefore illustrated the work that enhances a new synergy, thanks again to the support of the Ministry of Tourism, to promote the ” slow”, together with the agri-food excellences of the different territories that can be appreciated along the Via di San Francesco, San Benedetto and the Via Lauretana, the Franciscan Way of the Marca, in particular on some sections.

“Vini e Cammini” is therefore a real journey to the center of the Peninsula, to discover hidden corners of an “Italy you didn’t know” to be appreciated even more, especially in the summer.

The Umbria Region is the leader of the project – it was said during the meeting – in fact, it is rich in paths, with a large number of quality itineraries. The Via di Francesco is certainly one of the most famous and winds along several regions.

One of the most evocative stretches is the one on the “Via del Sud”, from Spoleto to Assisi, to be tackled on foot, but also by bicycle, whose central part is the “Valle Umbra”, so dear to Francesco.

Numerous abbeys, parish churches and convents testify to the spiritual charm of the area, which contains centers rich in art and history. The landscape is dictated by woods, in the highest parts, while going further down, leaving Foligno, here is the Spoleto – Assisi Olivata Range, which has obtained the “GIAHS” recognition as a rural heritage of global importance from the FAO.

The landscape here is a unique and unrepeatable heritage, which is the millenary result of culture and not of spontaneous nature.

The cultivation of olive trees in this part of the street represents an example of a “living cultural landscape”, that is, a “combined work of nature and man. And when the time has come to taste you can’t help but think about the wine production, in particular the Sagrantino di Montefalco DOCG and the Rosso di Montefalco DOP, as well as the Trebbiano Spoletino DOC and the DOP oil which in Umbria is real gold green.

Another product that absolutely deserves to be mentioned is Trevi black celery, a Slow food Presidium and a resource registered in the regional agrobiodiversity register.

The Tourism Department of the Umbria Region also promoted the new project, “Paths and Flavors of Cinema”, at Vinitaly. which aims to enhance the excellence of wine and oil production with events and film screenings organized by the Umbrian Film Festival Network.

From September and throughout autumn, for five weekends, free screenings are scheduled, preceded by tastings that will be held inside cellars or oil mills, to enjoy a true sensorial experience. There will also be workshops with schools, tours of places that have been set, walks and trekking.

This project represents a further step in addition to the investment in the audiovisual sector that the Region has supported, just think of the support for regional festivals, the organization and realization of the Umbria Cinema festival in Todi with the artistic direction of Paolo Genovese.

An essential pillar is the network of Umbrian Film Festivals, recognized and supported by the Ministry: the Spello Film Festival, Le Vie del Cinema of Narni, the Perso Festival of Perugia, the Umbria Film Festival and the Terni Film Festival, entities that with different and well-defined characteristics, they have been dealing with cinema with professionalism and enthusiasm for decades and represent a qualified and strategic partner.

With the initiative we aim to deseasonalization and the promotion of food and wine, wine and oil production first and foremost, the promotion of places other than the most common traditional tourist routes, thus promoting better knowledge of regional resources and moving away from the classic concept of film tourism.
