The Lorcan O’Neill art gallery opens an office in Venice

Overlooking Ponte Pesaro, in the Santa Croce district, the new headquarters of the Lorcan O’Neill gallery, which opens its second space in Italy in Venice, after the Roman headquarters, founded in 2003 as a space for contemporary art in the capital (since 2014, the headquarters are inside an eighteenth-century building in vicolo dei Catinari).

And in the opening days of the Biennale, the Venetian outpost of the gallery directed by Lorcan O’Neill And Laura Chiari inaugurates with an exhibition dedicated to the works of Richard Long (Bristol, 1945), including a new sculpture by the British artist, inspired by the red and white marbles that have been used in the palaces and basilicas of Venice for centuries. The exhibition will be open to visitors starting from Thursday 18 April, and until Sunday 21 April, before the gallery – adjacent to Ca’ Pesaro – adopts ordinary opening hours, from Tuesday to Saturday, from 11am to 7pm. The works by Long, which Lorcan O’Neill represents together with a large group of established international and Italian artists (from Anselm Kiefer to Tracey Emin, to Luigi Ontani, Emilio Prini, Pietro Ruffo), will be exhibited in Venice until November, for the entire duration of the Biennial.

Lorcan O’Neill thus contributes to redesigning the map of galleries, exhibition spaces dedicated to contemporary art and foundations that increasingly populate Venice. In the last few months alone, the Chinese gallery Capsule, the Parisian Galerie Negropontes, the Bolognese MAGMA Gallery have arrived in the city with a Project Space in via Garibaldi. And freshly inaugurated is Tommaso Calabro’s lagoon outpost, at Palazzo Donà Brusa in Campo San Polo. Not to mention the opening of Palazzo Diedo, thanks to Nicolas Berggruen, scheduled for April 20th.
