With the award ceremony of the winning class and the delivery of certificates to all participants, the 2024 edition of the competition came to an end this morning in the Fresco Room of the former Capuchin Convent.Let’s respect each other, aimed at students of lower secondary school and 5th grades of primary school, with the aim of stimulating ever greater awareness among citizens, and in particular among the new generations, regarding the concepts of equality.

The initiative, which has now become a fixed event in the city and promoted by the Equal Opportunities and Public Education Commissions, this year has the subtitle ‘Schools for women’s rights‘. Stimulating new awareness-raising courses on the topic of gender violence dedicated to children in Quarto schools in a preventive and educational way is a crucial point in aiming for concrete cultural growth.

In this specific case, the competition intends to reward the student authors of a work, which can take various forms – from literature to music, from drawing to culture – capable of more effectively promoting the concepts of equality and mutual respect, necessary to combat violence against women and more.

The choice of the Examining Commission, made up of 3 members of the Equal Opportunities Commission, 2 of the Public Education Commission and 2 technical members, fell on the class 5D of the Porcu-Satta Comprehensive Institute, which obtained top marks thanks to an elaborate video in which the same very young students also interviewed other citizens, investigating and urging them on the topic of gender violence. Notes of merit also for the 2C classes of the same IC and for the 2B and 3B classes of the IC in via Perdalonga.

During the morning dedicated to the presentation of the various projects and the consequent award ceremony, Mayor Graziano Milia spoke and explained how “in today’s society there are many, too many situations that generate fear and fear, with the consequent risk of closing ourselves in. With this competition we are instead sending a signal of confidence, because we believe in a turnaround. And it is easier for this to happen if the desire for change starts when young”.

And precisely in this regard the President of the Equal Opportunities Commission Elisa Usalla complimented “with all the participants for the excellent work done. The dramatic situation we are still experiencing is far from being resolved and for this reason it is important to work on the women and men of tomorrow: from the work it is clear that our young people have understood the problem”. The President of the Public Education Commission Ketty Giua also confirms this: “The works may appear to be small contributions but in truth they take on a much larger dimension in the path towards gender equality and the elimination of violence against women. They are important contributions that encourage reflection”. The Councilor for Public Education Cinzia Carta also agrees: “I thank the schools who accepted our invitation to join the competition, included among the Administration’s initiatives to spread a culture of respect. These are the first steps that allow us to start sowing, with the hope of being able to reap the fruits in the future”.
