The president opens Mauro Balata updated the Assembly on the topic ofexpansion of European competitions and on the distorting effects that this enlargement entails for national championships. Following the recent trip to Brussels, where Balata spoke with the European institutions conveying his concern and that of the League of B clubs for a possible impoverishment of the domestic tournaments, a ‘question to the European Commission by some parliamentarians from different political parties”on the evolution of football regulation, in light of the recent ruling of the European Court of Justice, in which there are growing gaps in the distribution of resources, to the detriment of the fundamental principle of fair sporting competition fully recognized by European law“. “The new Champions League – the question continues – exacerbates this drift, displacing all national championships without rebalancing solidarity mechanisms“. The parliamentarians conclude the document by asking the Commission what specific actions it intends to undertake to guarantee compliance with the principles of fair competition and fair distribution of resources and whether there are legislative initiatives aimed at countering the abuse of a dominant position registered by the European Court of Justice, incompatible with European competition law.

The Assembly also raised the procedural issue, i.e. how it was possible to arrive at such profound changes in European and world competitions without an open debate within the FIGC and an evaluation of the effects and possible solutions to counteract unwanted consequences.

Also in communications, Balata reported the recent meeting with the minister for disabilities Alessandra Locatelliin which a series of projects were planned in the direction of inclusion and aggregation to be carried out with the clubs of the BKT Series.

Finally, the clubs unanimously reiterated the need to urgently resume the path towards reforms that modernize and make Italian football more competitive. A series of proposals were put forward in discussions already open with the other components, to then be brought to the institutional table of the Federation.
