National night of the classical high school, tenth edition in Corigliano Rossano

CORIGLIANO ROSSANO (Cs) – Also this year the S. Nilo Classical High School in Rossano will participate in the

The event, born from an idea of Professor Rocco Schembrateacher of Latin and Greek at the “Gulli e Pennisi” Classical High School of Acireale (CT) and now Researcher of Classical Philology at the University of Turin, supported by the Ministry of Education and the Italian Association of Classical Culture, coordinated by a large and representative Organizational Committee, introduced by the unreleased song “In some way we will do” by the Florentine singer-songwriter Francesco Rainero.

Also in this edition, for the second time, Italian high schools join together 14 foreign high schools: the countries involved are Australia, Croatia, Germany, Greece, France, Romania, Spain, Turkey.

The starting idea proved to be a winning one: created to clearly demonstrate that the classical curriculum, despite all the attacks it had suffered over the years, was still full of vitality and was populated by motivated students, full of great talents and with ability and skills that far exceeded those required at school, the National Night of Classical High School has now definitively made its way into public opinion, contributing significantly to focusing the attention of the media and ordinary people on this course of study which has no equal anywhere else in the world.

For the tenth time, the professor’s idea will magically take shape. Rocco Schembra and, at the same time, in those six extraordinary hours, the participating classical high schools will open their doors to citizens and the young protagonists will perform in a whole series of performances linked to their studies and the exaltation of educational value of culture classic.

Anyone who goes to one of these high schools during those hours will be able to attend reading marathons, theater performances, concerts, debates, book presentations, meetings with authors, short films, film forums, themed tastings inspired by the ancient world and anything else the imagination and desire to do of the students and teachers will be able to implement.

The partnership that RAI Cultura wanted to sign with the National Coordination of Night has been confirmed. This agreement will allow sponsorship of the event at a national level. The poster of the event, created by prof.ssa Valeria Sanfilippo of the Liceo Spedalieri of Catania, represents in an embrace, a hippocampus and a mermaid within an overwhelming marine setting and, again, in the background, the island of Atlantis: an invitation to love and harmonious collaboration to overcome the own limits and achieve the dream of a reality characterized by peace and brotherhood.

Another competition also involved students, who were invited to send short films about dual theme communication and condemnation of gender violence.

But yet another competition, this year for the first time, involved all the high schools, who were invited to send the evening’s rough program in advance, so that the “National High School Night of the Year”.

This title, awarded on the basis of criteria such as the involvement of all students, including the most disadvantaged, and also the ability to promote the event outside the school with the help of local mass media and the internet, as well as the creation of an original program in harmony with common principles, was recognized at the Liceo Classico “A . Rosmini” of Palma Campania (NA).

The National High School Night is more than a party. It is, first of all, a way alternative and innovative to teach and convey the contents, to focus on training of a different nature which does not replace the traditional one, but complements it in a productive and profitable way.

The beauty of the National Night is not only in the Night itself, but in the long and laborious preparations that precede it, which allow the students to identify the places in which they experience the anxieties and expectations of a path of studytiring but rewarding, with a playful environment, in which culture means joy, pleasure of sharing, respect for times and parts.

All together, in an Italy, and not only, finally united in the ideal of defense, promotion and protection of our own more authentic rootsthose of the Greco-Roman civilization.
