Bari. The government has been practicing unprecedented repression since 1945!

For months the Meloni government has demonstrated that it cannot manage the dissent that is mounting against its agenda. The only answers he is able to give to those who speak out or protest against the war and the genocide of the Palestinian people are abuse of judicial power and truncheon.

The truncheon is reserved for the male and female students, the young men and women, who fill the squares. In Naples, a protest against NATO ended with 8 injuries, 2 of which were in the face.

Today, however, it is the historian Luciano Canfora who pays the price for the abuse of judicial power, accused of defamation directly by Giorgia Meloni. The reason? Having defined the Prime Minister as a “neo-Nazi at heart”, a phrase that has very deep historical roots, considering that her Fratelli d’Italia party has historical origins directly in the Republic of Salò.

We are not so much interested in committing ourselves to the defense of a person as such (given that among other things we have more than a few political differences with Canfora, for example regarding the local centre-left), but speaking up on an affair that reminds us of how much this Government is not willing to stop at nothing in order to be able to carry out policies that will drag us into the abyss of a Third World War.

This cycle of repression must come to an end! We must stubbornly continue to be opposition: whether with a sentence or with a demonstration. We at Potere al Popolo will continue to do so until this system changes radically.
