Palermo is unable to manage advantageous situations. The draw in Cosenza is yet another proof of a trend that has been going on since the beginning of the season. Many wasted opportunities and points thrown away.
The data on the points lost by Palermo starting from advantageous situations are alarming: in fact, there are eight championship matches that the Rosanero could have won if they had been able to manage the favorable result. On five occasions the Rosanero took a one-goal lead, then failed to manage. The matches in question are those against Ternana (1 – 1, 14th matchday), Como (3 – 3, 18th matchday), Brescia (4 – 2, 28th matchday), Sampdoria (2 – 2, 32nd matchday) and Cosenza (1 – 1, 33rd day).
An even more worrying fact concerns the matches that Palermo failed to win despite the double advantage. It is impossible to forget the matches played against Parma (3 – 3, 16th matchday, Palermo had moved up to 1 – 3), Cremonese (2 – 2, 26th matchday, Palermo had moved up to 0 – 2) and Pisa (4 – 3, 31st matchday, Palermo had reached 0 – 2).
Furthermore, of the eight matches that Palermo could have won, six ended in draws (against Ternana, Parma, Como, Cremonese, Sampdoria and Cosenza) and two turned into bitter defeats (against Brescia and Pisa). In football, taking the lead is not always necessarily synonymous with victory, but at the same time it is undeniable that the team should have managed the matches differently, with greater tactical organization, experience, competitive wickedness and cunning.
