I am writing to you to report a sad event today.
My mother (69 years old) and my father (76 years old) live in Teramo in the xxxxxxx neighborhood together with my brother (who is away from home all day for work), while I live in xxxxx. This morning they received a phone call on the landline in which the interlocutor stated that he was a lawyer and that he was contacting them because I, at xxxxx, was under arrest at the police station following a collision with a pedestrian on a pedestrian crossing. Obviously he was the lawyer of the injured party and was asking for €5000 to repay his client. He also reported that I had informed him that this sum was not available at home and that therefore he would also be satisfied with the gold. At first glance, struck by dismay, my parents reported that they had some gold available (of which they also wanted to have a detailed description) and some cash. Once the description was finished, he said that a colleague of his from xxxx would arrive to collect everything. After a few minutes they rang the intercom and only at that point (and luckily) my parents realized that from xxxx to Teramo just 5 minutes were unlikely and therefore they didn’t open. The person in question was careful not to be seen on the video intercom and, the moment my father looked out the window to see his face, he took off. The only detail he caught on both the intercom and the window was her red hair. We hear many stories like this but I am only writing to you to spread a warning to all lonely people, to warn them against these scoundrels who exploit the sensitivity and love of a parent towards his children, to steal from them of their belongings.
Obviously the police were alerted but I believe that awareness of the existence of these situations is much more effective in preventing unpleasant events.
