Cesena celebrates 54th World Earth Day, which takes place on April 22nd, with a rich program of initiatives to raise awareness of the importance of safeguarding the planet. The next appointment is for Saturday 20 April: an entire day organized by the Romagna Local Health Authority, open to all, but dedicated in particular to the active role of schools. From 10.30am to 12.30pm the great celebration ofEarth Day in the presence of secondary school students who will tell the city about the good practices of each institute, presenting the requests and proposals for an attentive and responsible community to the administrators.

Speakers: “En.AIP” Foundation, IPS “Versari –Macrelli”, IT “Pascal Comandini”, IT “Garibaldi/Da Vinci”, ITE “R. Serra”, Classical High School “V. Monti”, Linguistic High School “I. Alps”, Scientific High School “A. Righi”. The Provincial Student Council, the Provincial School Office, the municipal Youth Project, IOR, Spazio Giovani Cesena-Ausl Romagna and Legambiente will also participate in the morning.

In the afternoon, at 3.30 pm, the party will move to Ration Forum, where the event will be proposed “Environment: how to organize ourselves to build a sustainable future”: show, games and entertainment by Legambiente’s expert volunteers for an afternoon open to all of entertainment and awareness of the issues of environmental sustainability, dedicated in particular to primary and nursery school pupils. This is the second of the three events foreseen in the program proposed and implemented by Legambiente.

Following, Sunday 21 Aprilfrom 2.30 pm to 6.30 pm, the initiative will take place “The River and the city – Meditation with the river”, an urban walk with the performer Enrico Malatesta, promoted by the Municipality in collaboration with the Master’s Degree Course in Architecture of the University of Bologna – Department of Architecture. All participants will meet at Porta Fiume (via Aurelio Saffi, 2). The initiative is part of the “Walking with water” project, a cycle of ten walks that will take place until April 21st in various Italian cities and towns (Turin, Florence, Naples, Palermo, Cesena, Castelfranco Veneto, San Benedetto del Tronto, Senise-Montecotugno and Genzano di Lucania) and Croatia (Rijeka). Each walk aims to guide participants to reflect on the nature of water in different landscapes, rural, urban and peri-urban. how it can be a resource for human and non-human subjects, and can nourish the habitats and ecosystems that these subjects inhabit. In Cesena, during the walk along the Savio river, participants will be able to share thoughts and observations on the care of the territory and on water management, as a further moment of collective processing of the flood event that hit Cesena and its surroundings in 2023. The group will be led by: Enrico Malatesta, Raffaella Sacchetti, Elena Mucelli, Stefania Rössl, Massimo Sordi, Alba Paulì, Emma Veronese, Altea Panebianco, Nicolò Maltoni.

Also on the afternoon of Sunday 21 April, at 3.00 pm, the initiative will be held “I love Planet Earth”, pedaling along the Pisciatello cycle path organized by the Common Spaces present in the Al Mare district (Bulgarnò, Macerone, Capannaguzzo). The program of meetings will end on Monday 22 April, at 8.30pm at the Museum of Ecology with “Urban roots – Green revolutions in the city”, a public evening of scientific dissemination with free entry on new urban ecosystems and river trees. The professor of the University of Bologna Filippo Piva and the doctor Sergio Montanari (Botanist) will speak. At the center of the debate, environmental sustainability and urban greenery as a contrast to climate change, increasingly current issues in our daily lives.
