VIAREGGIO. The high wooden fence that appeared on the beach side along the length of the Balena bathing establishment, in Passeggiata, certainly did not go unnoticed. The factory, one of the oldest in Viareggio, was sold at auction in summer 2022 for one million and 69 thousand euros. It was won by the Lombard lawyer Simone Brambilla in the name and in the interest of the company “Sea Srl” with registered office in Milan, sole director Mauro Zagheni.

Last season the bathing establishment, equipped with five swimming pools, a gym overlooking the sea, a wellness centre, a bar, a restaurant and two terraces, remained open in a reduced form, entrusted to third parties for management and not without difficulty, not being able to guarantee the service that the customers are historically accustomed to receiving.

This year seems to be a good one for the start of works which involve millions of expenditure and not very short times, on a project that the property has entrusted to the Battistini architecture studio of Sarzana. Preparatory work – one can imagine what is happening to other beach establishments throughout Versilia – to obtain an extension of the concession pursuant to the Navigation Code.

It remains to be seen what will happen to the beach of the bathing establishment during the summer season which is upon us. Even considering that the Municipality would have requested the surveillance of the stretch of sea in front of the establishment which certainly cannot become the free beach of the Passeggiata.

The timing of the start of work and the duration of the entire operation which will return the factory to customers and the city should soon be clearer.
